Macquarie University E5B Clean Room
The existing cleanroom in E5B is to be refurbished and upgraded to class ISO 6 cleanroom and close control of temperature and humidity to cater for additional mass spectrometers and other lab equipment. Existing lab gas services has been upgraded and a new UPS system has also been provided for the lab. The design involves the provision of fume cupboards including one suitable for perchloric acid, air handling systems with HEPA filtration, a centralized outside air preconditioning system with dedicated fan coil units to service each room air conditioning needs. A new boiler was installed for the building and chilled water was obtained from a district chilled water system. Process chilled water, UPS power systems, deionized water, and trade waste drainage systems were also specialized requirements for the project.
Fine controls of all equipment within the air conditioning system is key in providing the required temperature and humidity control whilst accommodating the variable flow contributed by the numerous fume cupboards within the cleanroom and maintaining a pressure cascade across multiple rooms to maintain cleanroom certification
CJP was engaged to provide detail design on mechanical, lab gas, electrical and hydraulic services and provide full documentation for the cleanroom upgrade.
