University of Sydney – Sydney Manufacturing Hub

The Sydney Manufacturing Hub is a manufacturing-focussed research facility geared to enable concept-to-production demonstration capabilities, including advanced pre- and post-processing of materials. Situated in an outstanding new bespoke facility in building J07, the Sydney Manufacturing Hub (SMH) supports advanced capabilities to make and process metals, ceramics and polymeric-based materials.
CJP was engaged to provide the design and construction phase review for the mechanical, electrical, fire and hydraulic services for the fitout of the new lab. The fitout comprises of multiple laboratory rooms, including a clean room, a close temperature and humidity control space, heat treatment, chemistry and powder processing, high bay 3D print room, a "maker space", workshop, spray booth, and office space.
Air conditioning of the fitout is delivered by a combination heat recovery VRF system for office and general teaching spaces, a condenser water system with condensing boilers for heat injection and adiabatic coolers serving water cooled package units for laboratories and laboratory appliances, close control CRAC unit and rooftop packaged AC systems, outside air preconditioning systems, fume cupboard exhaust systems, point of use exhaust systems, heat treatment local exhaust and associated make up air system.
Compressed air required by the fitout has a specific stringent purity and temperature requirements which are accommodated with the use of additional filters and after coolers.
